About Vehicle Inspections
A roadworthy certificate (also known as a safety certificate) is a document that certifies your vehicle meets the minimum safety standards for registration. You’ll need one when:
Selling a registered vehicle
Re-registering a vehicle
Transferring registration to another person
Registering a vehicle from interstate
A typical inspection takes between 45-60 minutes, depending on the vehicle’s condition and type. More complex issues may require additional time for thorough assessment.
If your vehicle fails, we’ll provide a detailed report outlining the issues that need addressing. Once repairs are completed, we can conduct a re-inspection focusing on the identified issues.
If your vehicle passes the inspection, we can issue your roadworthy certificate on the same day.
Booking and Preparation
Yes, we recommend booking at least 2-3 days in advance to secure your preferred time slot. During busy periods (end of month/year), longer lead times may be required.
To ensure a smooth inspection:
Clean your vehicle so all areas are visible
Remove personal items that might obstruct access
Ensure the vehicle has sufficient fuel
Have your registration papers ready
Make sure the vehicle is in running condition
Costs and Payment
Our inspection fees are competitive and transparent. The exact cost can vary depending on your vehicle type. Contact us for a precise quote for your specific vehicle.
If re-inspection is required, a reduced fee applies. This covers only the components that failed the initial inspection.
Technical Questions
The inspection covers major safety components including:
Braking system
Steering and suspension
Tires and wheels
Lights and electrical systems
Windscreen and windows
Body structure and chassis
Seats and seatbelts
Emissions control
Common failure points include:
Worn brake components
Damaged windscreen
Worn or damaged tires
Faulty lights
Excessive play in steering or suspension
Oil or fluid leaks
An RWC is required when selling or re-registering a vehicle, while a COI is needed for ongoing registration of heavy vehicles, taxis, or other commercial vehicles.
After the inspection
In most Australian states, a roadworthy certificate is valid for a limited time (usually 1-2 months) from the date of issue. It’s recommended to use it as soon as possible.
If your vehicle fails due to major safety concerns, it may be deemed unroadworthy and unsafe to drive. In such cases, we recommend having it transported to a repair facility.
While we conduct thorough inspections, we maintain independence by not offering repair services. We can, however, provide detailed information about any issues found and general guidance about repairs needed.
